Stress Free Groceries

Recently I have been getting into some kitchen traditions: like baking, canning, dehydrating.

It’s something my grandmother used to do. I especially loved her jams. And of course the knowing where my food comes from since she always used to pick from her garden. This year has been very hectic for us learning the new terrain of this property and where the best place to put a garden would be, so I have been getting our food from local farms in the area that deliver as well as also getting some regular pantry items delivered.

Some have been telling me about the grief you feel going to the grocery store. For many reasons. Too many people, or seeing/running into people you don’t want to see lol Or just for the germs. I would definitely look into sites to help get you in touch with local farmers, not only for making yummy jams but for canning potatoes or sauces, or even getting your fresh meat from them and supporting the small businesses around you. It’s lovely to have a familiarity and connection with the food you are eating even if not coming from your own garden. And the relationship you have with your farmer builds up the community you are living in.

For all those other items the farmer doesn’t have or I don’t have time to do the canning – I do use an organic delivery service to avoid the time it takes to go to the grocery store lol. I use Misfit Market. It has truly been a godsend to use this store. The organic items are in stock and DISCOUNTED. Can I say that again. DISCOUNTED. Lol I know I know there is a small delivery cost ($7) but that minimal cost makes up for the time and gas lost by actually going to the store Alone. Between Wednesday and Saturday I will fill up my online cart with items that I need and no matter what it comes on Tuesday. A lot of my neighbors here use it as well. Its delightful to just have everything show up to the doorstep. If you are nervous about waste – all the packaging is recyclable. And if you don’t want a box you can always skip. I know that is what we will be doing when we go on vacation. Also there is no subscription fee.

Needless to say, making a relationship with the local farmers and getting groceries delivered has truly lessened the weekly stress and anxiety for me. Scott may run to the store once a week for just a handful of items (his ice cream)😉 lol but its usually on off hours or he uses the quick checkout for 5 items or less. Other than that we don’t step into the store anymore. It’s a win-win for us. Hopefully this helps you in seeking out more small businesses to support in your local community. And if you want the link for the Misfit Market it is. https://www.misfitsmarket.com/?promo=COOKWME-UE2YCKIWQIC Which will save you $10 off your first box! I love discounts 😀 Enjoy!
